Spays and Neuters
We recommend all dogs and cats be spayed or neutered if they will not be used for breeding. Routine spay and neuters are performed with our state of the art CO2 laser. We are the only clinic in Great Falls to offer surgeries performed with the C02 laser, while remaining at affordable prices. Benefits of the CO2 laser include less bleeding, less pain, less irritation and faster healing. These procedures are best performed before 6 months of age.
Sometimes teeth brushing and dental bones just are not enough. Does your pet have bad breath or difficulty chewing? This could be a sign of periodontal disease, which can be very uncomfortable. Teeth cleaning will allow us to remove tartar and plaque, as well as checking for broken or loose teeth. A thorough examination of the mouth can be done while your pet is under anesthesia. We will remove plaque and tartar ultrasonically, polish each tooth individually and end with a fluoride treatment to provide your pet with a great smile and fresh breath. We also offer dental x rays for broken or problematic teeth.
Vaccinations & Wellness
Keeping up to date on vaccines will help your pet live a long, healthy life. Vaccines are safe and effective. We promote vaccines that are needed for our local region. If your pet is around other animals, gets pampered at the spa, vacations at a boarding facility, helps out with hunting, or is out and about , be sure to have them vaccinated. Ask our staff about our effective rattlesnake vaccine!
We recommend annual wellness exams for your pet. During the exam Dr. Petersen will check your pet's teeth, ears, eyes, skin and coat. During our exam we get to know you and your pet and are able to make recommendations for a happy, healthy life together.
We also offer monthly intestinal parasite and heartworm control.
We do all our surgeries with a laser instead of a scalpel blade. The laser is a CO2 laser so when it cuts, it cauterizes the blood vessels, which leads to less bleeding during the procedure. It also cauterizes the lymphatics and nerve endings so there is less pain and irritation after the procedure.
We also treat the incision with a Diode laser which enhances the healing process on the cellular level. This is the same type of laser therapy that professional athletes use on their injuries. We are the only veterinary clinic in Great Falls to offer laser therapy while remaining at affordable prices. All surgeries are closely monitored with the utmost care by our professional staff.
X-rays show the internal shadows of a dog or cat. Whether your pet has an injury, is not feeling well or is pregnant, we will be able to observe and document what is going on internally with your pet. X-rays help us take a closer look to getting your pet healthy and back to feeling great. Our staff is trained to safely take and develop x-rays of your pet.
We also offer dental x-rays for broken or problematic teeth.
We now offer digital x-ray. Digital x-ray is beneficial for many reasons. Comfort for the patient, quality of images, and speed of processing are all pertinent to getting your pet feeling great. Digital x-ray technology displays viewable images in as little as three seconds, saving on time for both the patients and doctor. Additionally, because the images are digital, they are easier to resize into larger or smaller images, depending on the need - all without distorting the graphic or losing important details that the original images hold.
Microchipping offers pet owners the only truly permanent method of identifying your pet and linking them back to you. Animal microchips are about the size of a grain of rice. They are implanted just beneath the skin, between the shoulder blades by your veterinarian. The process is similar to a vaccination and most pets do no react when it is implanted. The microchip is then registered into the Pet Link Lost Pet Database for the life time of the pet. With using a Datamars microchip there are no hidden or annual fees to maintain your pet registration. Microchipping is a safe and effective way to ensure if your pet is ever lost they can be scanned and find their way back home. Pet rescues, veterinarians, humane societies and even some emergency response personnel carry microchip scanners in effort to help pets find their way home.
Dr.Petersen recommends premium diets that are easily digestible. We would be glad to discuss your petís individual nutrition needs at your next wellness exam. We can create a diet plan specifically based on your petís size, weight, age and medical needs. Weight management, dental health, mobility level, sensitive stomach and urinary issues are just a few prescription foods we offer.
